REVIEWS

quote On the list for me top 3 Malaysian restaurants in Auckland (as of August 2025). Petaling serves up great food with great service. My pick to try are the butter floss range of dishes and the Kam Heong chicken. Make sure to book if you’re attempting to visit on Thursday, Friday, or Saturday 🤪

quote Overall, recommended 7.5/10 Dry Bak Kut Teh — 4/5 Soy sauce-based dish featuring tender pork ribs and pork belly cubes, simmered with a mix of soy sauce, fish sauce, and sugar for a savory-sweet flavor profile. The meat is soft, flavorful, and pairs wonderfully with stir-fried onions, scallions, and okra. However, the pork belly cubes had a slight gamy taste. Fried Chili & Garlic Crispy Eggplant Stuffed with Pork — 3.5/5 The fried eggplants are wonderfully crispy, and the minced pork flavored with chili, garlic, and fish sauce pairs excellently with rice. However, the eggplant itself lacked seasoning, which left the dish feeling slightly unbalanced. Teh Tarik (Milk Tea) — 5/5 Absolutely amazing. It’s smooth and slightly thick, with a rich aroma of black tea, similar to Hong Kong-style milk tea but enhanced by a hint of unique spices that set it apart. Anyway, I’ll definitely come back to explore more dishes on their menu.

quote Visited Petaling Malaysian Restaurant and ordered the WatTanHor (mixed noodle) and the Fish head curry laksa. Both were good overall. If I had to be particular, I probably would not go for the fish head version of the laksa next time - not much meat, and the laksa flavour overpowered the fish head (but then again, what did I expect? LoL). The deep-fried beehoon in the WatTanHor was also a bit too much compared to the rice noodle (HorFun), and it ended up absorbing too much of the sauce, making the dish a little too dry for my liking. Still, a satisfying meal and worth a visit.
